British Columbia has launched a carbon-tax rebate program aimed at providing financial assistance to its greenhouse growers. This initiative is designed to alleviate the burden on their cash flow. Eligible greenhouses can benefit from an 80% reduction in carbon tax on their propane or natural-gas usage.
However, the provincial government has announced that the new rebate will not be extended to British Columbia’s cannabis producers. Many of these producers are struggling to survive under the weight of the Canadian government’s cannabis excise tax and other fees.
Under the new rebate program, commercial producers who use more than 90% of their greenhouse for vegetable, ornamental flowers or plants, forest seedlings or nursery plants are eligible for this rebate. This is an effort to promote the growth of these types of crops in the region and support the local agriculture industry.
