Manitoba Harvest to Launch Hemp Powders with Green Tea at Whole Foods

Manitoba Harvest, a hemp food subsidiary of Tilray, has announced its plan to launch a new line of hemp powders blended with green tea leaves and other greens through the grocery chain Whole Foods Market. The distribution deal includes ground hemp protein with other “on-trend plant-based ingredients” such as matcha, a caffeinated powder made from green tea leaves. The Hemp+ Matcha powders will be available in 348 locations across North America and Hemp+ Superfoods powders in 382 stores. After 90 days, the powders will be sold in other grocery channels.

Manitoba Harvest is a company based in Winnipeg that produces food items from hemp grain, including hemp hearts, hemp protein, hempseed oil, and hemp extract. It was acquired by New York-based marijuana producer Tilray in 2019.

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey has predicted a strong future for CBD and other hemp products in grocery retail. He mentioned in a speech at MJBizCon in 2020 that there is still room to join the crowded CBD market, but manufacturers must produce consistent products.

The move by Manitoba Harvest is timely, given the growing demand for plant-based protein and health supplements. Hemp-based products are also gaining traction in the market due to their perceived health benefits. Blending hemp with other plant-based ingredients such as green tea leaves and matcha can potentially increase the appeal of the products to health-conscious consumers.

In conclusion, Manitoba Harvest’s plan to launch Hemp+ Matcha powders and Hemp+ Superfoods powders blended with green tea leaves and other greens at Whole Foods Market is a strategic move to tap into the growing demand for plant-based protein and health supplements. As more consumers turn to plant-based alternatives, the hemp food subsidiary is poised to gain a larger market share in the health food industry.
