The use of CBD products can be confusing, especially when it comes to determining the right dosage. In an effort to shed some light on this important topic and assist consumers in making informed decisions about their CBD use, we spoke with Dr. Chris Adlakha of Elevated Wellness.
Dr. Adlakha explains that there are currently no regulated guidelines for CBD dosing, which makes it difficult to pinpoint an “average” dose. Due to differences in body composition and sensitivities to cannabinoids, finding the appropriate dosage requires a process of trial and error. He recommends starting at lower doses, such as 10-25mg, and gradually increasing to find the optimal dosage.
While there is no standardized CBD dose, many products suggest starting at around 25mg. It is essential to find the appropriate dose, as taking too little will have no effect, while taking too much could have adverse effects. Body composition is the most crucial factor in determining the ideal dosage, and the severity of the condition being treated may require more or less CBD to achieve relief.
Regarding specific conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, and sleep, Dr. Adlakha explains that the appropriate dosage varies based on the individual’s body composition. Lower doses are generally more effective for anxiety and stress, while medium to high doses are often used for chronic pain and sleep. For instance, those with minor back pain may benefit from 75-150mg of CBD, whereas those with severe back pain might require 200mg or more. For sleep, individuals typically take medium-high doses, ranging from 75-100mg.
Dr. Adlakha offers some advice for those just starting a CBD regimen. He emphasizes the importance of checking the source of the CBD and ensuring the product has undergone third-party testing to minimize impurities. Additionally, he advises consumers to request a copy of the Certificate of Analysis, which provides detailed information about the product’s quality and contents.
Finding the right CBD dosage is a personal journey that depends on an individual’s unique body composition and the specific condition being treated. Gradually increasing the dose from a lower starting point can help individuals find their optimal dosage. Additionally, paying attention to the quality and purity of CBD products can ensure a safer and more effective experience. Dr. Chris Adlakha of Elevated Wellness reminds us that understanding one’s own needs and being informed about CBD products are key to unlocking the potential benefits of this versatile compound.
