Wanda James is a well-known figure in the cannabis industry, having made a significant impact on cannabis reform both politically and as an entrepreneur. Her efforts have been recognized by High Times magazine, which named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in Cannabis in 2018, and Cannabis Business Executive (CBE), which included her on their list of the 50 Most Important Women in the Cannabis Industry in 2016. She is CEO of Simply Pure and has also been featured on the covers of Sensi Magazine, Cannabis & Tech, Cannabis Dispensary Magazine, and Black Enterprise. Wanda and her husband have appeared on several national and international shows, including The BBC, Democracy Now, The Atlantic, MIC.com, MSNBC, Smile Jamaica, ViceLand, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CBS Sunday Morning Holiday Special, “Eat, Drink and be Merry,” and CNBC’s Marijuana USA.
Ms. James played an important role in the development of policies for medicinal cannabis, leading to her selection for the Amendment 64 campaign committee which successfully legalized cannabis in Colorado. Following legalization, she served on several of Governor Hickenlooper’s cannabis workgroups, focusing on edibles, packaging, dispensary operations, and communications. Her expertise in cannabis reform, regulation, and policy has assisted numerous municipalities, including Jamaica, Maryland, and California, in their legalization efforts.
In addition to her work in the cannabis industry, Ms. James has worked with several political clients, including Jared Polis for Congress in Colorado’s CD2 and Lt. Colonel Jay Fawcett for Congress in Colorado’s CD5. She was also appointed to President Obama’s National Finance Committee in 2008 and became one of the largest bundlers of donations for President Barack Obama in Colorado. With her extensive experience and expertise, Wanda is a highly respected figure in both the political and cannabis communities.
